How come our politicians only bring up the gay marriage question around election time?

Bush did it twice, and he hasn't touched the subject again.How come our politicians only bring up the gay marriage question around election time?
Oh believe me, they bring it up all the time. Just ask them about Balancing the Budget, or the War in Iraq and it'll be...Oh look over there!! Two Gays Kissing!!! Aaaaahhh!!!

Bush did it because Karl Rove knew that same sex marriage is a hot button issue among the fundies and he told the pres to make it an issue. It was used to deflect the country's attention away from all the rights that are gradually being taken away from us.
Democrats and Republicans all do it for the same reason...everybody keeps falling for it. Whether you're for or against, it doesn't matter.
Because it is a divisive issue. Divide %26amp; Conquer is not just a military term, politicians use it during election seasons by saying ';If you are not 'for' us you must be 'against' us.';





Hot button issues such as same sex marriage %26amp; abortion are used to 'define' candidates during elections, but once they are elected they do not mention such things because they do not want to push any potential voter away.
The only reason I think Bush did was because he was digging for approval points. He wanted to be seen as a ';marriage defender'; to the heavy religious, and try to gain some support.





He did for a bit, but it didn't work as much as I bet he wanted it too.
People want answers finally.
It's pure, cynical politics. Because it's a hot button issue, it is trotted out to drum up votes.
