If gays are equal under the law thus allowed marriage, why are they protected under hate crime laws?

Anyone else watching C-span and the hate crime legislation? It just seems like a double standard. If gays are equal under the law thus allowed marriage, why are they protected under hate crime laws?
exactly.

'hate' crime laws are a ludicrous attempt to legislate someone's THOUGHTS.

talk about the ULTIMATE breach of the right to free speech!!If gays are equal under the law thus allowed marriage, why are they protected under hate crime laws?
All crimes committed involve hatred. So what's the difference between the two? Is murder of a white heterosexual man any different than the murder of a white homosexual one? The same rule applies if they are asian, black, indian, christian, muslim. Should the prosecutor really care what your sexual preference is? Isn't murder the same in both cases?
Because hate crime laws are national, and remember only 3 or 4 states allow gays to marry. Plus there are still violent crimes against gays all over the country occurring for 1 reason, they are gay. People seem to hate them for that reason only.
Yep, just like those horrible ';double-standards'; that women, racial minorities, and religions take advantage of. After all, once these groups were ';allowed under law';, all discrimination stopped, right?
They are still a minority. The same reason blacks are protected under hate crime laws but equal under the law.
Equal under the law does not equal not discriminated against
...you do know heterosexuals are protected under hate crimes as well.
Sexual orientation includes heterosexuality.

Dismissed.
Liberal Hypocrisy.
because as a group, they have been specifically targeted
Because they want it all!
