Do you think that interracial marriage should still be legal in 2008?

Why or why not? Do you think that interracial marriage should still be legal in 2008?
If you are refering to ';sham'; marriages where the foreign man or woman is only interested in marrying an American to gain US Citizenship...then the answer is : It is far more difficult to get away with today than it was before 9/11. Immigration laws have been tightened way up by the anti-immigrant Repubs almost making it impossible for even legitimate relationships to be ';approved'; by the USCIS.

God help any American who is in a relationship with a foreign man or woman...the Government currently seems to immediately view any and all such relationships as suspicious or with skepticism and the burden of proof is on the American citizens to prove that they truly are in love and want to marry and live happily ever after. But make one little mistake, forget some information, or miss a deadline and the Government forces you to start over at square one and you must pay all the same fees, thousands of dollars plus deal with the extra time, up to 1 year longer before you actually can hold your loved one in your arms on US soil.

Sure there are legitimate reasons for such scrutiny...but in many cases the scrutiny goes waaaaaay to far and US citizens with no criminal record are still left to prove to the Government that they are not pimps or slave traders.Do you think that interracial marriage should still be legal in 2008?
I don't think that anyone should get married just for citizenship, I don't see how that is productive. Plus if you have ever tried to do it it's not easy. That person has to be ';sponsored'; and as the citizen you have to sign a waiver that if that person becomes sick or needs welfare they cannot collect for 10 years after the marriage. If they commit some kind of crime, you are held responsible. It is not as easy as just getting married. I think that it is legal and the barriers they have in place, help prevent people who are not serious about staying together from doing it.
This is a complex can of worms. I think immigration laws have changed enough that anyone who considers marrying a non-American citizen should consult with an immigration lawyer first. As far as this being a path to citizenship, I am skeptical, because I have a brother who is USAF who married a Peruvian woman and she is not a US citizen despite their 8 years of marriage.

Interracial and homosexual unions are easily distinguishable when the factor of the best interests of children are considered (since interracial couples can reproduce and homosexual couples cannot). Too many people are using emotional mumbo jumbo to deal with an issue of public policy legislation.
We can't abolish marriages between Americans and foreign citizens; to do so would be to step on the rights of American citizens by telling them they can only marry the people we think they should marry.

Oh, wait. That's exactly what Republicans WANT to do...

No, seriously... the government should have no authority over what is or is not considered a ';marriage.'; I do think, however, that the law should be re-written to make it mandatory for those marriages to last longer in order for the non-citizen to obtain - and retain - citizenship. In other words, marrying a U.S. citizen should only entitle you to be a U.S. resident, with periodic unannounced home interviews, until you've been married, say, ten years or so.
Yes, because then no one would be able to get married. Everyone is a mix of at least two races, especially here in America. So technically every single marriage could be considered ';interracial';.

EDIT

The person above me is crazy. I am Christian, and the bible does not say that anywhere. Jesus was from the middle-east by the way. And our nation is not a Christian nation. The founders of our country wanted everyone to be able to practice whatever religion they wanted. That's why they founded it.
Oh God NO! Like gay marriage they should be banned. Marriage is only for heterosexual couples of the same race and faith. The bible says so. And no marriage for agnostics or atheist either. We must preserve our Christan nation. The way our founder Jesus wanted it.
I can't seem to see how the color of ones skin has anything to do with whom they marry...

My daughter is white and she has been married twice each time to a black man...The first one was shot in south side Chicago...

My other daughters married white men...Skin color has nothing to do with anything..I have three beautiful grand children from those two marriages....
Yep.

Because we're not Nazi Germany.

Hmmm...in that case...I don't know. There are some scam type things out there which should be looked at closely. Otherwise, I guess they're all right. With the internet, long distance romance can happen, I guess. I don't know.
Well it wasn't legal in Alabama in 2000.

The same arguments used against interracial couples are being used against gays today. People need to open their eyes and get over bigotry and discrimination.
yes.

love is color blind.

if we segregate color when it comes to marriage, we are no better than before the civil rights movement, in my opinion.
If it can be reasonably concluded that the marriage is simply a scam for a green card / citizenship then no these marriages should not be recognized as legal.
Everybody is mixed somehow. Every marriage technically is interracial.
I think if you were born on earth, you should not have a relationship with anyone who wasn't.
Yes Penelope Cruz and Halle Berry are smoking hot little tidbits.
Anyone who says otherwise should be shot to death, in broad daylight, in front of the entire world... on CNN.
everyone has the right to be with whoever they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
Nope. If we allow interracial marriage what's next? People marrying their dogs?
hahahahahahahahaa LOL
What possible basis could there be for questioning its legality?
Yes, people are people .love is love
yes just like gay marriage should be
