How long does it take for a green card application to be processed? (Through Marriage)?

Hi

I am british citizen and will soon be marrying an American. Does anyone know how long I can expect the green card process to take?

Do you receive a work permit while it is being processed?

Will it make a difference where we get married? Should we get married in the states on the fiance visa or outside and file the application afterwards.

If you are intending to get married here you should go for the K-1 visa petition and if you intend to get married first before coming over here, it should be the K-3 or CR1 petition. If you choose K-1 you will have to adjust your status or apply for your green card after you get married. Mine took 3 months from application to green card issuance.Time frame varies from 3 months to 2 years. Some gets to be interviewed while other skips it.If you choose the CR1 which is an immigrant visa, your green card and SSS card will be mailed to you few weeks after you entered the US.You can apply for work permit along with your AOS or green card application for free. It takes about 90 days for a work permit or EAD to be processed. You can read more on requirements in www.uscis.gov and a good website to browse and join forums is www.visajourney.com.
