What is the Republican party's position on an issue such as gay marriage?

I need to create an infomercial for a class project on how the republican party feels with an issue like gay marriage. Please help me with detailed answers! (something other than ';they are against the subject.';)What is the Republican party's position on an issue such as gay marriage?
the far right wing of the party is dead set against it and want it strictly defined as between a man and a woman they would like to have the constitution amended to have this put in thus making it illegal. moderates don't for the most part want it but are willing to allow civil commitments or let the states decide on their own. i hope this helpsWhat is the Republican party's position on an issue such as gay marriage?
Many, many Republicans are against gay marriage, favoring civil unions or no rights at all. It's my personal opinion that gay rights is one of the last issues that so many people allow Republicans to make a blatant breach of separation of church and state. The best argument any Republican can make against gay marriage is that marriage is a ';holy sanction'; between a man and a woman. Holy is not a word that should ever be used in regards to politics, if you ask me, and any other defense made to prevent us from marrying is complete and total nonsense.
I know my position is that to call it a ';civil union'; and not marriage. Marriage is holy union between a man and a woman.

It is beyond the scope of a one sentence answer... You need to do research...
Want to ban it.

Some don't mind civil union and want to give perks to that.

But...a lot are dead set against it and want that to be illegal as well..
