Is being against gay marriage discrimination in the name of god? If not what is it?

If the laws banning gay marriage are in the name of religion, then since by the constituion the laws are favoring one religion over another, they are unconstitutional. Is being against gay marriage discrimination in the name of god? If not what is it?
Alas, we do not have laws banning gay marriage. Yet. With any luck, that will remain true.

I would say that for the most part being against gay marriage is a matter of fearing what you don't understand, and/or being uninformed. Is being against gay marriage discrimination in the name of god? If not what is it?
Being against gay marriage is merely being FOR heterosexual marriage and understanding what marriage is and why. It is two people promising to live and love each other for their entire life. The main reason for a man and a woman to get married is to reproduce themselves....create children.... and stay together to make a home for the children to grow up in. without sperm and eggs getting together....the human race would dissapear as we got old and there were no children to replace us. Let's not blame God for people not patting others on the back for being something other than we must be to keep from dying out.
It's ignorance in the name of God
This is where all three of the major arguments against gay marriage go off the rails.

First, the ';Adam and Steve'; argument is just silly. Great marketing, but utterly outside the point in a legal debate. By it's very reference, it's saying that the justification is religious. And that means it must fail as a justification under the US Constitution, since religious motivations are never valid reasons to enact a law.

Second, even if you go with a religious framework, the Bible recognizes covenant marriages between same sex. Read the story of Ruth and Noami and the covenant between them. That's just one example.

But even beyond that, even if we grant that Christianity generally doesn't support the idea, saying that the Christian religious beliefs should be dominant and enforced as a matter of law means any contrary beliefs of other religions are invalidated. And once again, we have a state religion where those who believe otherwise are left out in the cold.

And before anyone raises it, no allowing same-sex marriage has nothing to do with polygamy. All of the laws in the country regarding property inheritance, taxes, benefits, succession laws, etc. -- all are written around a marriage being two people. Now, in none of those laws does it matter whether the surviving spouse (or the visiting spouse, or the dependent spouse) is male or female. The laws are gender neutral, with the spouse getting benefits of marriage. So, it doesn't matter at all (except for titles on the forms) whether both are male, or both female, or one of each. The laws work just as well regardless of gender, for two people. But the laws don't work for groups larger than two people, so it's no longer a gender-based issue. That's why the same-sex marriage debate has nothing to do with allowing polygamy.

Finally, there's the procreation argument. If the sole purpose for marriage is procreation, then anyone not capable of procreation can't get married. By that argument, only fertile heterosexual couples should be allowed to marry. So, anyone who doesn't plan on having children, or isn't capable of having children, should not be allowed to marry. Go ahead. See how far that gets you in any civilized country.

The only reason to deny same-sex couples the benefits of state-sanctioned monogamy is because a lot of people don't like gays. And it's really said that people want to amend the constitution to enforce such prejudice and hatred as a matter of law.
im not sure. i think gay people are actually good people that gave a real problem. they didnt just decide to be gay.
Your right, religion shouldn't be a factor. Unfortunatley we have a lot of people in control that are against gay marriage because of their religion, so u can see the problem.
read the bible about being gay, love and marriage then see if it's discrimanation aganst God. Sorry
I don't know if the laws are based on any religion, or if they are simply based on what the voters and polls have shown to be the mindset of the majority of the voting population. Being against it myself, I will say you have a point about the law being unconstitutional if it is based on a particular religion. However, I don't believe homosexuality is a religion. It could be transformed into one easily enough, but I don't think it has gotten to that place yet. I can tell you that I don't see myself as a biased person, except as it applies to the Bible. I am NOT against any person or group of persons. I AM against actions or behaviors that I believe are not Biblical. I know that sounds like a line a parent would use on their child when they have done wrong, but it is true, at least in my case. I have friends of all races, creeds, sizes, belief systems, and sexual orientations. They know how I feel, but I don't push the issue after the initial conversation about it. It is far better to be friends with someone when you don't agree with them totally, than to make an enemy everytime you turn around.
My religion says....Men shall not lay with men, women shall not lay with women. I don't know about anything else...to each it's own, speaking of religion.and what it says..it's wrong for gays either way..
yes is unconstitutional
One thing... God made Adam and EVe, Not Adam And Steve -.-
