I am writing a novel about my husband and I and the tragic effects of alchohol on a marriage?

what will it fall under nonfiction or what.I am writing a novel about my husband and I and the tragic effects of alchohol on a marriage?
You have a lot of obstacles to overcome. 1) Getting permission to use other people. 2) Making your story different from the many others out there like it. 3) Learning how to write a book proposal. In the case of non-fiction, you don't query the same way as with fiction. You send in a book proposal first. You need to get a book that teaches you how. Also, you will need to keep copious notes - so that you can back up your facts. We all know what happened with James Frey.

They're, Their, There - Three Different Words.

Careful or you may wind up in my next novel.

Pax - CI am writing a novel about my husband and I and the tragic effects of alchohol on a marriage?
It would definitely be non-fiction. Because it deals with real-life issues and not something made up--as commonly found in fiction.

Good luck with your tome. :0)
If it is literally the biography of a marriage, it will be non-fiction.

On the other hand, if it contains fictional elements and is just based on or uses elements of your marriage - and you say it is a novel - it will be fiction.
It would probably fall under the genre of romance or psycological thriller depending upon how the plot goes. Hope you become successful in the future!
I suggest watching the movie ';Riding in Cars with Boys'; starring Drew Barrymore. She writes a similar book.

I also think that when it's done and your putting the finishing touches on the synopsis, you'll know exactly what genre it fits into. It may just been too soon to tell.
If you're writing a true story about what alcohol abuse has done to your family, it would be Non-Fiction. Depending on how you write it, the book could fall under self-help (if you give advice), biography (if you are telling the true story of someone other than yourself), or autobiography/memoir (if you are telling the true story about yourself).

It's only a novel and fiction, if you are making up a story about what alcohol can do to a family.
If it's a novel, it's fiction. Are you describing your own life in the first person, or are you putting your experiences into the life of a fictional person? A novel is a fictional story, or writing about your own life using other identities.
