Why same sex marriage is not a topic in this president election?

Some said in 2004 this topic helped Bush. Why does McCain not use it?

But this is very HOT topic now in California, because it is so close in '; Prop 8';, the final result would depend on turnout rate, Metro area, most say'; No';, Rural area, most say'; Yes';, why they are so divided? Why same sex marriage is not a topic in this president election?
The candidates were asked to share their views, and they did.. And then they moved on.Why same sex marriage is not a topic in this president election?
It is an issue in this election, but it's the silent one in the corner of the room.

Obama can say he's opposed, he could even be, but watch the Supreme Court apointments, if he's elected. There's no basis to believe liberals will allow the states to make their own decisions about same sex marriage, that's not how they roll. They use the Courts to force minority positions on the majority of Americans, and they always distort the Bill of Rights to do it.

Actually, Mark D is correct, they also mis-use the 14th. I merely anticipate they will try to analogize this to bi-racial marriage caselaw.
Both candidates are unwilling to say gay marriage should be legalized across the nation because of the very reason you've stated - people are deeply divided on the issue. While each candidate may have their own viewpoints on it, both support the same thing here: civil unions good, marriage not good. It's sad but true. As for Prop 8, I can't wait to see it fail. People are divided on it because media outlets are allowed to lie as much as they want about what voting no will do. Voting no will not cause kids to start learning about gay marriage in schools. Even if it did, it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference. It wont force priests to marry a gay couple if they don't want to. Yet these are the arguments I keep hearing.
Nobody care about Same Sex Marriage anymore in the political arena. This includes the staffers, media, and anyone else directly involved with the campaigns. It is definitely going to be a hot topic in California because that is basically the epicenter of Political Differences. On the coast you have all of your Liberal Democrats (including Code Pink), and in the Interior North and South regions of the state you have your Bullworth Conservative Republicans. I could only imagine the carnage that has been taking place over there this entire election.
It ought to be a huge issue, because both candidates ought to be grilled on the topic of what kind of Supreme Court Justices will they be likely to appoint. That is the extent to which the topic of gay marriage is a national topic, because of the potentialilty of the Supreme Court to legalize gay marriage nationwide with a misinterpretation of the 14th amendment.
here in the bay area today they reported on a 1st grade class 5 %26amp; 6 year old there were given contracts and made to sign stating they would not sexual harass there class mates...WTF....how many kids no how to even spell sexual harassment....oh the schools response on this matter opps they were not supposed to go to them, but the older students ... shameful shameful shameful you should be so proud!!!
because who cares about that when the economy is going to pot. that should never be a focal point of an election. leave that crap up to churches and let gay people have rights like hospital visitation and what have you.
Because, this year, it's the economy, stupid.

There are real issues to focus on this year for a change and the economy trumps all, even boys kissing.
Because both candidates agree that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
Well they both agree on unions but not marrige. They both have the same stance on it, so it cancelled itself out.
Same reason Gays who want to be married do not talk about oil subsidies...It is Irrelevant and pointless....Next.
It is a non-issue.
