How many years did it take before Canada legalized gay marriage?

I don't know how the laws work but if someone but in a bill or whatever it's called in 2008 how long would it take for it to become a law in the US?How many years did it take before Canada legalized gay marriage?
I'll say within 5-8 years when the US will legalize Gay Marriage.How many years did it take before Canada legalized gay marriage?
Following a series of legal challenges the walls started tumbling down on June 10, 2003.

Canada becomes the third country to legalize gay marriage after its Parliament approved landmark legislation in July 20, 2005, despite strong opposition from Conservatives and religious leaders.

Each country is different, and it's imposible to predict how long a bill would take in any particular country, since tere are other factors to consider.

One thing that's positive, is the overwhelming support of the youngest generation of Americans toward gay rights.

Older Americans have shifted a tiny bit, from 1/5 before to now 1/4 supports gay marriage, a change from 2001-2006, but these people might need to die before we get equal rights in America.

In about 10 years, the majority of votersin the U.S. will support gay rights, as younger voters grow up, so we can expect inevitable changes, which makes some folks very angry.
It took about 10 billion years.

2 years:

Same-sex marriage has been legal:

in the province of Ontario since 10 June 2003;

in the province of New Brunswick since 23 June 2005 (New Brunswick was the last province to leagalise it)
Same-sex marriage was legalized across Canada by the Civil Marriage Act enacted on July 20, 2005. Court decisions, starting in 2003, had already legalized same-sex marriage in eight out of ten provinces and one of three territories, whose residents comprised about 90% of Canada's population.
