Is the gay marriage issue a struggle for human rights?

Thank you for not objecting for not finding spiritually speaking at the head of this question. Is the gay marriage issue a struggle for human rights?
It is a fight for equal rights

We are sick of being treated like second-class citizens

EDIT: To the religious folks:

There is difference between a legal marriage and a religious marriage.

A legal marriage is a legal contract between two people. To achieve this, you must go through the court system, which from my knowledge has nothing to do with a church/religion. Legal marriage plays no part in religion.

Why don't the religious fight for re-naming legal marriage? Since it is only a religious term, why can the government use it? And which religion claims hold of the word? Christians? What about Muslims who get a legal marriage? Or Mormons? Isn't that wrong too?

The issue I guess is people think gay marriage will force churches to allow gay marriage. No it will not! A church can refuse to marry anyone because they can do what they want. But their wishes should not dictate US policy.

Gay individuals just want equal rights under the law. They are not trying to change religious dogma.

You'll NEVER hear a secular reason against gay marriage. Once the government used to word 'marriage', it became secular. Seperation of church and state, people don't get itIs the gay marriage issue a struggle for human rights?
Yes....but it shouldn't be.

Speaking at least to Americans (and yes I know this is an international forum ;)

There simply should not be an issue in the first place.

We are constantly throwing around the ';fact'; that we are a nation that respects all humans equally.....time to put our money where our mouth is.

This is not something that should be put to a vote, or even need discussion.

America is supposedly built on equality for ALL mankind.

It is supposedly free from the religious law of any one religion.

Time to start acting the part we always shove down other nations throats.

I have often been labeled as ';un patriotic'; simply because I cannot stand the hypocrisy that exists within the American ';Superman'; mentality.

If we are going to claim moral high ground over other countries, then it's time we started acting with at least half the human decency we claim.
It's a sin issue for many of faith, but, then, there are a multitude of sin issues for which we have no laws.

Shall we legislate pride? Lying to someone? Harboring malice in one's heart?

Even if I find homosexuality to be a sin, we do not live in a theocracy. It's a slippery slope and who knows what would be legislated next.
It most certainly is a struggle for human rights. Just because a religion is against it doesn't mean other people shouldn't get the chance to be happy.
Yes.... The struggle for equality is the struggle for human rights...
We are human and we're being denied rights becaues of something we didn't choose; so yeah.

Four down, forty six to go
Yes, it's disgusting gay peoples civil rights are put to a vote so often.
Sure is.
Romans 1:26-28..it's a sin

Vermont is a gay state now after today..lol.

a religion isn't against it..religion is man made...IT'S IN THE B I B L E !!!!!!...

i didn't write the bible..your not thumbs downing me..talk to Christ..if he let's you and it's not to late..good luck..sheesh
Its a struggle for us to watch this disgrace continue to become more accepted.
It is not a human rights issue.... its a sin issue.... We don't fight to make stealing legal.....
