It just spark public debate thats all I can't remmber seeing anyone protesting. This is not to safe South African embrace same sex marriages infact most are against its just that there are more bigger things for us to worry about. What was the public's reaction when same sex marriage was legalized in South Africa?
Cheri:
I'm always puzzled when someone claims that it is unnatural and a matter of choice.
Why would someone choose to be ridiculed by society, harmed or even get killed for his sexual orientation? That just doesn't make sense to me.
It is common sense to big parts of the world that one is born with it and that he/she didn't choose to be attracted to the same sex. South Africa, though, different story...What was the public's reaction when same sex marriage was legalized in South Africa?
South Africans are relatively chilled about things. There are some conservatives (a large portion of the population) that were against it, but they do not make a huge fuss about it - they just move on with their lives. South Africans are not as uptight and ''mean'' as say Americans who are seriously against same-sex marriages
I think only the people who was affected by it was glad ... i don't judge people but to me it is and will always be unnatural, and i don't think kids should be raised by people of the same sex
Add .. Sorry i don't agree ... it's a choice and to each their own
I Believe...
Our background and circumstances may have
influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.
For me as a Gay man it was a HUGE step in the right direction. What was however to me a greater victory was that our constitution was upheld, and even though possibly the majority of people do not support same sex marriages; the constitutional rights was not denied.
Just like everything else...if it doesn't affect us we don't care. We only care about not getting raped, mugged, shot at, killed, maimed, run over or whatever other evil method of torture is selected by the savages. Same sex marriage? Who cares? I am not gay therefore I don't care. Rather spend my time watching Rugby....BULLLSSSS!!!!
Don't mean to be nasty, but I really don't think many cared. People are dying in their droves from AIDS and in some cases they hardly have the necessities for survival. Food on the table and a roof over the head is more of a concern than politics.
it wasnt a big issue when it was legalised. They dont worry anybody, and nobody else bothers with them. Its their choice and everybody to their own. I have a few gay friends and I dont even think about it much. Not a big deal.
I was quite glad. For too long have gays and lesbians been exempted from that torture. However, everybody else really didn't seem to give a damn.
